Under-rated Italian Restaurant | Kucina Italian Restaurant

Kucina Italian Restaurant

Being the only few Muslim Italian Restaurants, this authentic Italian Restaurant is extremely under-rated. “Kucina” means “kitchen” in Italy, and over the weekends, huge amount of muslim communities will patronise this restaurant. And being just 1 year old, its reputation is mainly built through word of mouth, with its regulars coming back frequently.

Its layout is simple yet purposeful. To accommodate big group of families, the tables and seating arrangement are flexible. It even has bar seats for you to watch the Chef prepare your food right before you!

Chef Gero is a very experienced chef of 24 years in Italy cuisines before opening his own restaurant a year ago. Being very confident in the quality of his creations, he is not very big on marketing. “If your food is good, people will come” – and these are his very words. Everything is made from scratch and recipes are only known to the chef himself. Being in Singapore for so many years and being supported by a muslim wife, you will not be wrong to give this restaurant a try!

Gnocchi ($19)

This homemade potato dumpling with fresh salmon and leeks in tomato cream sauce is unique because each batch of Gnocchi is made by Chef Gero himself, purely by feel. He is so familiar with the ratio of potato and flour that just by feeling the texture, he will know when it is adequate.

Each Gnocchi is so soft that it almost melts in your mouth while it spilts within to reveal a cheesy taste (Chef Gero did not mention any cheese, but I suspect there is)! Cubes of salmon and slices of leek become the matching sides to the potato dumplings in the tangy sauce. You probably can’t find such quality of gnocchi anywhere else!

Arancini Siciliani ($11)

These golden balls contains minced beef with saffron rice, rolled into a ball with mozzarella and parmesan cheese! In Italy, Arancini Siciliani is actually a street food.

Crispy on the outside, but texture within is like a croquette. Every ball is handmade!

For each bite, the chesse pull becomes obvious! And each ball is full of quality ingredients!

Dessert Platter ($19)

This dessert platter consists of a variety of mini desserts including Sicilian Cannoli, Pannacotto, cream brulee (French dessert), tiramisu and other chef creations.

This Sicilian Cannoli is uniquely made from scratch by Chef Gero – a really nutty and fragrant creation that can’t be easily imitated.

This Tiramisu is one of the most popular dessert choices here. Instead of cream to make it set, Chef Gero makes mousse-like base  from scratch. Every spoon of this produces strong espresso tastes.

Mild bitterness from the caramelized sugar layer gives a contrast to the sweet and soft cream brulee.

Non-Alcoholic Wine

Have you heard of non-alcoholic wine? Chef Gero gets his wine certified from Spain, whereby the liquid is filtered till the alcohol content is eliminated. The red and white wine both tastes like wine, but the interesting fact is that you will never get drunk on these! The White wine is a must try!
