New DC Super Heroes Cafe at Takashimaya!
Everyone rejoice!! (Not just DC Comics fans, and we’ll explain to you why)
A second DC Superheroes Café is now here to welcome you right in the heart of town – all ready to “wow” you once you step through its massive 3.8m tall Justice League doors. The first if you didn’t already know is located in MBS! Sitting atop a ledge beside the taxi stand at Takashimaya, the bright blue neon signs and beautifully varnished mosaic “Superhero” glass windows are enough to catch anyone’s attention! Be greeted by life-size Superhero figurines like Batman and Superman:
As well as the iconic giant Batmobile, once stationed at the original outlet located at Marina Bay Sands (we found out that it took quite a bit of effort to transport it all the way to Taka!).
Aimed to provide a fully immersive DC Comics universe for both large family groups and younger patrons, the stunning ambience is honestly not the only attraction.
The ambitious set-up includes a revamped extended menu with live seafood (live seafood!), an impressive Superman-themed Espresso machine that is specialized enough for use at the World Barista Championships (so you caffeine lovers won’t feel left out):
As well as a fire-powered oven to serve fresh handmade pizzas in 3 minutes flat, you heard that right:
The relatively large setting is capable of seating up to 120 individuals, with 5 full-size decorated booths, each adorned with a Superhero figurine sitting atop. Not to mention a polished glass cabinet featuring a strictly personal collection of superhero merchandise, different than that of the Marina Bay Sands outlet, which has retail merchandise on sale.
Reputed celebrity chef Martin Woo personally revitalized the menu, (it’s really extensive!) and here are some of our favourites:
We started off with the recommended Batsy Oreo Milkshake, which to our delight was peppered with chocolate powder in the shape of the Batman insignia! It was just the right level of sweetness. However, what I found especially refreshing was the Dark Detective Iced Black Tea, a fusion of iced black tea with a shot of espresso, and a local Singaporean touch of Gula Melaka (palm sugar) at the bottom – not too sweet for our tastebuds as well:
The “Hot Crustacean Treasure Bag Aka You Can’t Savor This Alone” was the first show-stopper! Featuring their live seafood FRESH from the aquarium displayed next to the kitchen, the tiger prawns, clams, flower crabs, and mussels were simmered/steamed to the right level of juiciness and tenderness.
The Batman’s Dark Knight Wagyu Beef Burger was another item that we truly enjoyed. Boasting charcoal brioche buns topped with caramelized red onions and a grilled succulent Portobello mushroom, the flavorful wagyu beef patty was paired tastefully with different textures ($28.90 is relatively reasonable for such a thick fat slice of wagyu, no?).
This charcoal grilled Two-Face’s Tasty Iberico Pork Rack emphasised meat that fell right off the bone! The crisp home-made beetroot fries tasted surprisingly healthy (just our high hopes? Hmm), and the mashed butternut (a more flavourful version of pumpkin) brought the dish together perfectly.
Not to mention the fluffily piping-hot Metropolis Savior Savor: Jamon Iberico that was fresh out of the Batman dome almond-wood oven. The dough is freshly prepared, and you can witness the flames inches away from engulfing the cheesy masterpiece. And yes, it took just 3 minutes in-and-out of the oven for us to really enjoy this Jamon Iberico and Arugula- topped pizza!
Last but not least, I really didn’t want to overlook including this dessert in the review. Garnished with toasted marshmallows and Snickers cubes, the Wayne Mansion in Ruins S’mores Chocolate Waffles is just what you’re looking for in a chocolatey treat! We loved the warm, soft, and fresh Belgian waffles- and the chewiness of the S’mores topping was on point. Also who wouldn’t love some cheesecake ice cream to boot??
This café is definitely a must-visit at least once, as it lives up to its promise both in terms of ambience and food quality (Parents beware, you might even enjoy it more than your kids!). Cakes are customizable as well, with superhero cakes available for parties, all pastries made in-house.
There’s a 50% discount for all pizzas and light bites on the menu, and all cakes and drinks are going at 1-for-1. Enjoy these promotions now till end February, only on weekdays (Mon-Fri, 2pm-6pm) excluding Eve of PH and PH.
